Label Printer

Label Printer There are several factors to take into account when choosing a label printer, and it is important to understand these before purchasing one or you could end up making a costly mistake. After all, you will expect years of faithful service from your printer and it is important to select the right one for your purposes.

The first thing to consider is the volume of labels that you intend to print. If you are only printing a small volume (approx 1000/month) then you would be better off with a small desktop office printer such as the Dymo LabelWriter. These are cheap to buy and have no consumables other than the labels. However, the labels are relatively expensive so if you are printing higher volumes then the label costs will mount up very quickly. For higher volume printing you should purchase a Zebra industrial label printer - although these are more expensive initially they are designed to handle high volumes of labels, and the labels themselves are much cheaper.

The second consideration is the range of labels, and levels of customisation required. For example, the Dymo has a limited range of label printer labels, so you can only use labels of the sizes, shapes and colours provided. With the Zebra printers however, there is a vast array of different shapes, sizes and colours and if you can't find exactly what you're looking for you can get them custom made to your specification. You can even get them pre-printed with full colour graphics ready for you to print your own text on top.

The final thing is the intended usage of the labels. Some labels may be appropriate for general filing and addressing envelopes, but other applications such as barcoding and warehouse product labelling may require tougher labels that are more resistant to abrasion, chemicals and UV light. When using thermal labels UV light can be quite an important factor, as 'direct thermal labels' can discolour or fade if exposed to excessive sunlight and in these cases a 'thermal transfer' printer would be more appropriate.

As you can see, there are many things that need to be taken into account when deciding on the most appropriate label printer Labels also require careful consideration, so if you are unsure which to choose please do email us with your requirements and we will gladly help you select the best printer for you.
